How to learn to play bridge
Playing Bridge by the Sea
If you are interested in learning how to play Bridge, there are many good resources you can access.
There are different forms of Bridge, we play Rubber Bridge. This is an informal format where two pairs play each other and score after each hand, gaining points for successful bidding and making a contract.
In UK, the main alternative is duplicate which follows similar rules but is played in a more competitive environment. The English Bridge Union oversees Duplicate in England and can offer guidance on learning to play Bridge.
We recommend a newcomer learns the ACOL form of bidding. This form of bidding uses simple methods to analyse your hand and allow you to communicate with your partner.
We recommend books by Paul Mendelson:

There are also You Tube channels which may help and many local authorities run adult education classes in Bridge.
There are online lessons and apps which not only allow you to play online, but offer useful hints (check the computer is using the ACOL convention though)
