Getting Started at Deal Rubber Bridge Club

Playing Bridge by the Sea

The Deal Rubber Bridge Club is a friendly environment which plays contract bridge on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:30pm to 4:30pm at Downs Sailing Club, Walmer Green, Deal. The Club has easy disability access directly from Walmer Green. Each session will be supervised by a Committee Member who oversees the arrangements.

Players should pre-arrange partnerships as we do not have the facilities to pair up on the day.

Non-members are welcome to attend and should introduce themselves to a committee member. Bridge players should bring a pen and some change.

Members are invited to put 5p into a Yarborough Pot, and 5p into a Vulnerable Grand Slam Pot. (Should a pair either get a Yarborough or bid and make a Grand Slam, they will be awarded the pot.

Tables will be laid out with cards and score cards. On arrival, you should join a table.

The club scores in accordance with standard Contract Bridge scoring. You will play the same pair for complete rubber. At the end of the rubber, the scores are tallied, and the lowest scoring pair pay the winning pair, at 3 pence per 100 points difference each. I.e, the for a score of 1160 to 650, the losing pairs would pay each of the winning pair 15 pence each to the winners. No formal record of the score is kept.

On completion, the pairs cut a pack of cards, the losing pair leave the table and either move to another table or wait until a table is free.

At about 3.00pm, tea, coffee and biscuits are offered. The end of the session is usually informal, with players finishing a rubber by 4:30pm. There is a table fee of £3.00 for members, and £4.00 for non-members.

Membership is available at £10.00 per annum.
